The people complained against God again, which led to God sending poisonous snakes into their camp to bite them and poison them. The only way that the people could get better was by looking at bronze serpents mounted on poles in the ground. They had to believe that God would take their poison away. There was also a man named Balaam who was riding on his trusty donkey when an angel of the Lord with a sword went into the path and caused the donkey to go off the path twice and stop completely during the third time. Balaam beat the donkey for disobeying him, but he then realized that the donkey had gone off the path and refused to go forwards, so that its master would not be killed by the angel with the sword.
