A son of David named Absalom rebelled against David and took over a city causing David and some of his loyal men to flee. David had one of his servants pretend to be on the side of Absalom, so that he could give Absalom bad advice. Absalom had a battle with David’s men led by Joab. Absalom’s army lost badly and during the battle he got his hair stuck in a tree and his mule kept going, which caused him to dangle helplessly from the tree. Joab and his men killed Absalom, which caused David to become depressed. However, Joab told David to be happy he had won despite losing his son, so that he would not lose the loyalty of his followers, so David went out to be with them.
